Optimising every student's opportunity to achieve to their full potential is at the heart of Wellers Hill State School's commitment to all students. Wellers Hill State School provides students with the opportunity to complete their Primary school study via two pathways;
- Australian Curriculum English (ACE) pathway (Prep to Year 6)
- Australian Curriculum Japanese (ACJ) Immersion pathway (Year 1 to Year 6)
Learning in both pathways is based on the Australian Curriculum. The students’ educational, social and personal development needs underpin our approach to all activities. Wellers Hill State School promotes a global education that acknowledges the interconnectedness of cultures and languages.
Unlike any other school in Australia, the Australian Curriculum Learning Areas can be taught either through English or Japanese.
A strong emphasis is placed on the development of literacy skills in both ACE and ACJ classrooms.At the end of Prep, parents are asked to choose which pathway they would like thier child to participate in.
Australian Curriculum English Pathway
In this pathway students are taught the Australian Curriculum all in English. The language that is studied at Wellers Hill is Japanese and students who undertake this pathway attend a Japanese Language lesson each week.
Australian Curriculum Japanese Pathway
In the Australian Curriculum Japanese Pathway students are taught the Australian curriculum half in English and half in Japanese. 50% of a two week timetable is devoted to teaching through English and the other 50% through Japanese, thereby ensuring balanced exposure to the two languages.
