Instrumental Music
The Instrumental Music Program provides students with the opportunity to learn and perform a range of brass, woodwind, percussion and string instruments. Places in the program are limited, with student recruitment occurring in Term 4 for the following school year.
Students who are accepted into the program are expected to make a commitment to regular individual practice, weekly instrumental lessons, band participation and scheduled performances. Band rehearsal times are organised and communicated by the Instrumental Music Teachers.
The Instrumental Music Program operates on a user-pays basis. Families are responsible for purchasing required music books and basic instrument accessories, such as valve oil, reeds or strings. An annual ensemble levy, payable by Week 4 of each year, covers ensemble music, the use of music stands and equipment, competition entry fees, and performances or events that require excursions.
This program provides free tuition during school hours on String, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion instruments. Ensemble experience is provided through participating in String Ensembles, Concert Bands and other extension small ensembles outside of school hours or during lunch. Attendance at these groups is compulsory and an integral part of the Instrumental Music Program.
Lessons and Instruments
Instrumental Music lessons take place during school hours and are delivered as 30-minute weekly sessions:
- Woodwind, brass and percussion: available from Year 4
- Strings: available from Year 3
Students who express an interest in learning an instrument may be able to hire an instrument through the school, subject to availability.
Families are encouraged to consider purchasing lower-cost instruments when students commence the program. These may include violins, violas, flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trombones and trumpets.
Higher-cost instruments are available for hire, subject to availability. These include cellos, double basses, euphoniums, tubas, bass clarinets, tenor saxophones and baritone saxophones.
Choir
The Choral Program provides all students with a positive choral experience. From the most inexperienced singer through to highly accomplished and well-trained performers, students are able to be part of a progressive Choral Program that caters for vocalists of all levels.
Students can do not have to audition for the choirs that include the Junior (Years 3&4) and Senior (Years 4-6) choirs. Student participation in the choral program requires a full year commitment.
Choir participation supports musical development, confidence and enjoyment of performance.
An annual levy applies to choir members to cover the cost of music, microphones, speaker systems and related resources. This levy is payable within four weeks of joining.
