Uniform Policy (Dress code)
This school supports a strong Dress Code.
Children are encouraged to wear the uniform correctly at all times.
Parents are requested to ensure that their child has the appropriate uniform to wear, which includes hats and jumper or tracksuit in the school colours.
All the articles of uniform clothing are available for purchase at the uniform shop which is open from 1.30pm to 3.30pm every Wednesday and from 8am to 10am every Tuesday.
The wearing of uniform includes wearing adequate footwear at all times whilst at school, unless directed not to do so by a teacher. Thongs are not considered to be appropriate footwear.
Transport and safety
All children should be thoroughly familiar with the road to be used between home and school.
Children should be made aware of road hazards, elementary safety rules. Your concern should ensure that your child does not loiter on the way home, visit friends without your knowledge, or talk to strangers. Young children should be accompanied to school by an adult until you are sure they can be completely safe on their own.
Children who ride a bicycle to school must be aware that it is illegal to ride a bicycle without a helmet. Bikes, scooters, roller blades, skates, skateboards must not be ridden in the school grounds by either adults or students. Bikes and scooters must be locked to the bike racks during school hours. The school will not be held responsible for lost, stolen or damaged bicycles left in the bike racks.
Toohey Road and Weller Road "Stop, Drop and Go" areas are supervised until 3:20pm each afternoon. Parents are reminded to obey all traffic signs and parking instructions. Afternoon bus supervision is provided at the bus stop from 3pm to 3.15pm to ensure children are boarding the correct bus as well as ensuring the safety of the children whilst near the roadside.
Illness and accidents
Parents of children who become distressed through illness at school will be notified and asked to take the child home.
Please ensure the school has up-to-date information regarding emergency contacts so that an adult can be reached if illness or an accident should occur.
In case of an accident in the school grounds, first aid will be administered. Where possible, the parents or emergency contacts will be notified by phone and their instructions followed.
However, some situations will require the immediate action of the Principal, and the Principal will take whatever action is required to ensure the safety and wellbeing of your child. If an ambulance is required, it will be called.
Strict protocols govern the use and administration of medications at Wellers Hill State School.
A teacher or other adult person of the school staff authorised by the Principal, may give oral medication, provided it is given strictly in accordance with instructions written on the package by the pharmacist from the doctor's directions. Medicine must be accompanied by written permission from the parent/caregiver.
Non-prescribed oral medication (such as Analgesics, Panadol, Aspirin or Cough mixture) cannot be given by a teacher or any other person on the school staff.
Medication is required to be administered from time to time in schools, please ensure that our administration staff are provided with the latest information and permissions.
